8. A committed team, a protected environment
A passion for mountain biking, respect for the forest!
The Jonchère Saint-Maurice Bike Park is located in the heart of an exceptional natural environment with very rich biodiversity. The site includes several protected areas, notably a ZNIEFF (Zone Naturelle d'Intérêt Écologique, Faunistique et Floristique - Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest), identified for the presence of bats, which are sensitive and protected species.
We operate within private and communal forests, and some of our trails cross or run alongside land belonging to the ONF (National Forestry Office). Even though forest management is not handled by the ONF for the entire site, we always work in compliance with the rules and constraints associated with these areas.
Our goal is to enable mountain biking while fully respecting the environment. The Bike Park's management is designed to minimize its impact on the natural environment , taking into account sensitive areas and periods of importance for wildlife.
Our way of working is primarily manual. The trails are created and maintained by hand in order to respect the forest soils, limit erosion and preserve local flora and fauna . This approach also allows for better integration of the trails into the landscape.
The use of mechanical equipment remains occasional, controlled, and regulated. It is only used when necessary and always in compliance with environmental constraints. The timing of operations is carefully chosen to minimize disruption.
In summary, the management of the Jonchère Saint-Maurice Bike Park is based on a balance between sporting practice, respect for different land statuses and protection of the natural environment, in a responsible and sustainable approach.
